How Long Does A C-Section Take? Experts Weigh In

If the fault is not an emergency, the following procedure will take place:

At the beginning of the procedure, the anesthesia will be given, and the display or sterile drape will be used to protect the sterile environment of the incision site. Your stomach will then be cleaned with antiseptic, and you may have an oxygen mask placed over the mouth and nose to increase oxygen to the baby.

The doctor will then make an incision through your skin and into the abdominal wall. The doctor may use one of a vertical or transverse incision. (A horizontal incision is also called a bikini incision, because it is placed below the navel.) Furthermore, the 3 to 4 inch incision is then made in the wall of the uterus, and doctors removed the baby through an incision. Then cut the umbilical cord, the placenta is removed and the incision is closed.

There are various types of emergency situations that may arise during delivery. In some cases, the fault will happen very quickly, with babies delivered within 15 to 20 minutes. This is an emergency C-section. After that, there will be extra time when providers will sew up the uterus and abdomen.
