Advice on how to make a healthy recovery at home after a c-section. Find out how to recover and how to care for your wound.
It may take about six weeks to recover from a caesarean you (c-section). If you have problems during or after a c-section, or if you are looking after other children at home, you may feel you need more time to recover.
Talk to your doctor if you are still experiencing pain or you do not feel you have recovered after six weeks.
'I'm busy at home keeping my older son. I feel tired and uncomfortable for almost three months. '

Gentle exercise, such as walking, will help you recover from a c-section. But avoid something more active until you do not have pain and you feel ready. For example, avoid driving, carrying something heavy, doing heavy housework, such as dust, or have sex until you feel able. You'll need help carrying your baby in their car seat and pram by lifting them. Check with your insurance company when you will be covered for driving after a c-section.
midwives and health visitors will visit you at home for the first few weeks to check out how you and your baby get. After that, you can see the health visitor at the local clinic if you want your baby to be weighed or if you want to talk about the problem you are having. You will need to make an appointment with your doctor to check your postnatal six to eight weeks after a c-section. This is to check how you are recovering.
Your midwife will visit you at home to check your wound and remove your makeup, if you still have one. They will also remove the stitches or clips after about five days, unless you have the stitches dissolve. It does not hurt but it may feel uncomfortable.
Once your makeup has been removed, clean and dry your wound carefully every day. You may feel more comfortable to wear cotton high-waisted pants and loose clothing
Tell your midwife or doctor immediately if :.
This could be a sign of infection.
'I got my wound infection a week after the surgery and I feel a bit of a failure because of it. I had a shower and keep clean as well as I could, but it was in an awkward place and with the extra baby weight, it is difficult to see the wound. '

Your wounds will continue to feel the pain and bruising for a few weeks and you will need to take painkillers for at least 7-10 days after the c-section, so that you may want to make sure that you have some paracetamol and ibuprofen at home.
To help control the pain take painkillers regularly and on time, even if you do not have any pain at the moment. If you are still having pain with painkillers, talk with a midwife, pharmacist or doctor.
The amount of pain that is recommended by the midwife or doctor should be safe for you to take. As small as any medications you take can get into your breast milk, but they are unlikely to harm your baby if you take them as instructed. However, codeine or co-codamol (which contains codeine) may be harmful to your baby. Always check with your doctor, midwife or pharmacist before taking any medicine. midwives can deliver pain medication to take at home, such as paracetamol or ibuprofen.
In and out of the bed can be difficult or uncomfortable when you're recovering from a c-section. Most people do not have a bed that you can raise and lower, as you do in the hospital.
You may find it easier to get out of bed by rolling to your side, drop your legs off the bed and then pushed himself sideways into a sitting position. Try to stand up straight as you can. You can do the opposite to go back to bed.
Your wounds will take about six weeks to heal. You will have a scar but it will fade over time.
You may lose feeling in the injured area, which may come back from time to time.
'I do not have the feeling around the wound for nearly five months. I just had a strange feeling pins and needles when I touch daerah.'Sarah
Your midwife may advise you to massage your scars to break up scar tissue and stop any itching. There is not much evidence to show how well this works, but some women find it helpful. Only do this once you have fully healed wound. To massage your scars:
You may have been given a supply of blood-thinning drugs to reduce the risk of blood clots. If so they will show you how to inject yourself. you will need to have an injection once a day for about a week after a c-section. If you have a higher risk of blood clots, you may need to have an injection of up to six weeks.
If you're worried about doing a shot of his own, you can ask your partner, family member or friend to do it for you. But they should be available to give the injection at the same time every day.
physical recovery from a c-section takes up to six weeks. However, everyone recovers differently, so when you can start having sex again will depend on how you feel physically and emotionally. Talking about it may help to reduce the anxiety you both feel.
There are no hard and fast rules or legal requirements about when you can start driving again after a c-section.
But:
If you meet the above guidelines, you are free to drive. For most women, anecdotal evidence indicates that this would be about a week 4-6 after childbirth
