Pelvic Pain in Women: Causes and Treatment

Chronic pelvic pain is pain in the area below your navel and between your hips lasting six months or more.

Chronic pelvic pain can have several causes. It can be a symptom of another disease, or may be a condition in itself.

If your chronic pelvic pain apparently caused by another medical problem, treat the problems that might be enough to relieve your pain.

However, in many cases it is impossible to identify a single cause for chronic pelvic pain. In this case, the goal of treatment is to reduce pain and other symptoms and improve quality of life.

In other cases, however, the pain can be the result of some medical conditions. For example, a woman may have endometriosis and interstitial cystitis, which both contribute to chronic pelvic pain
