People are feeling the effects of stress and anxiety in many ways.

About one in five adults in the United States have IBS. Women are more likely to experience symptoms, which usually begins in late adolescence or early adulthood.
There is no known specific cause, but some experts recommend that people who suffer from IBS have a bowel sensitive and reactive to certain foods and stress. (The disorder is also known as spastic colon.) Although IBS can be painful and uncomfortable, not permanently damage the intestine, also do not cause other digestive diseases.
People with IBS often suffer from anxiety and depression, which can worsen symptoms. That's because the colon is partly controlled by the nervous system, which responds to stress. Evidence also suggests that the immune system, as well as response to stress, plays a role. IBS can also make you feel more anxious and depressed.
